Let me make things a little simple with these on-the-go selections.

Hey, do you wanna look like a sumo wrestler? sumo Scarsdale Personal Trainer Warns Against The Sumo Diet

I assume that’s a NO so the next question I have is do you eat like one?

Mitch, how dare you?

No…WAIT!…seriously..read on cuz how sumo wrestlers gain weight may surprise you and it may be what you are doing in your diet right now.

The following is the deliberate, ancient eating habits that create HUGE Japenese warriors (it’s not what you think)…and see if some of these habits sound familiar to you.

These once small-framed young boys wake up about 5:30am every morning and

  • SKIP BREAKFAST then…
  • participate in 5 hours of hard exercise called keiko.

After they bathe, they eat their main meal of the day called chanko-nabe, a tremendous stew made of seaweed, cabbage, leeks, mushrooms, tofu, chicken, pork, salmon, eggs, rice and more rice and EVEN more rice.

  • After this serious over-eat
  • they nap for several hours before they wake up…
  • eat another pretty large dinner and then
  • go immediately to bed. The next day they do it all over again and this goes on for years. Soon, you’re looking at  400-700 pound monster!

I know what you may be thinking…

1. The first thing they do is skip breakfast. This is TERRIBLE if you want to lose weight. Your body wakes up in “slow metabolism mode”.

It wakes up with a big red DNA stop sign that says “feed me or I will store fat all day long”

2. What’s worse is that not only do sumos skip breakfast, but then immediately engage is very strenuous exercise with no food. Sound familiar guys?

This is a double-whammy as not only is the body not being fed after hours of sleeping, but the body is getting forced into hard work where it will CONSERVE calories even more.

The body doesn’t look at this as a “good idea for weight loss”, it looks at this as “a serious problemgood idea bad idea Scarsdale Personal Trainer Warns Against The Sumo Diet and possible famine” You think this GOOD, but the body thinks this is BAD.

You wanna lose weight and fit in your skinny jeans but the body only wants to survive and NOT feel threatened or it will hold onto every extra pound you want to lose.

They OVEREAT their lunch because after skipping breakfast and working out for so long they are starving. We all know that overeating at any given time will cause fat storage but these guys go one step further and take a long nap right after lunch. This is begging to get fat.

And if that wasn’t bad enough, they pretty much do the same thing for dinner and then go back to sleep again.

  • Train SMART, not long. There is no reason why 30-45 minute routines several times a week can’t get you lean if it’s intense enough and your diet is correct for your body and age.
  • Don’t overeat at any point. Eat small, frequent meals/snacks throughout the day
  • Don’t eat 2-3 hours before bed time

Getting fit and/or staying fit is not a quick fix, it’s a LIFESTYLE – and I know it’s not always easy. healthy living 300x212 5 Habits of Highly Fit People in Scarsdale Bootcamp

So I asked a few people in my Scarsdale bootcamp, some private personal training clients of mine and some fit friends  that have either lost weight and kept it off or have always been fit just how they do it – lead an active lifestyle that is.

While there were different answers for some, there were 7 habits that all of them had in common so I thought you would like this.

1. They Don’t Bring Junk Food Into The House

no junk food 5 Habits of Highly Fit People in Scarsdale BootcampWhile all the” fitsters” said they do cheat on their diet from time to time and are far from perfect, the one thing they do not do is bring junk food into their home.

They said their home was like their temple and if there’s one safe place they can go-to when the movie popcorn, restaurant and fast food dining and outside temptations gets too much is their home. They said it was the place where their goals and actions had a foundation.

The also did not buy junk food for their spouse, partner or child either. It was just a rule they had. If someone else brought it in the house, there was nothing they could do, but they didn’t buy it.

2. Working Out Is A  Priority For Them – No Excuses

They put working out, eating healthy and taking care of their bodies and minds as something they do in priority 265x300 5 Habits of Highly Fit People in Scarsdale Bootcamporder to have leisure time/play time/chill time.

They look at having fun as a reward AFTER they take care of and push their bodies. I mean…this is the definition of how you must think, act and be if you are going to be successful at anything right? It’s no surprise they said this and they were very strict about it..

They almost all said the same thing. It’s JUST A PRIORITY in my life. It’s not something I get around to when all is perfect with the world – it’s something I do no matter what and in many instances it’s something I do MORE of when I’m stressed, tired or getting negative cuz it helps me bounce back to positive quicker.

3. They Have a Goal They Are Looking To Achieve

Theses are not people who may want this or might want that or think it would be nice if they could…

they KNOW what they want and go get it.

That’s POWERFUL :)

4. They Have a Reason Behind The Goal

Well, the girl who wanted to lose 5 pounds has a wedding to go to in 44 days and she wants to look great in the picture…

the girl who wanted to drop 30 wants to be more attractive and get back to the days when her and her husband were all over each other and she also knows that these 30 pounds are preventing her from social events that she would otherwise feel comfortable at…

the friend I know who wants to run a 5k cuz his sister is a survivor of breast cancer and he wants to run for a cure..

do you see how much more powerful it is when you know the reason WHY you want what you want?

So the next time, you have cake in front of you, the next time you see that bag of chips in the store, the next time you are tired after work or cozy in your bed in the morning, remind yourself of your goals and remember the REAL REASON(S) you want it so bad…

5. The Have Support and Accountability

This I know from major experience.

Never underestimate the power of a mentor or a mastermind group. You get so much more accomplished and much less time.

Eat Smart This Labor Day Weekend

But the endless appetizers, 3rd plates full, drinks, desserts and dips can make that bathing suit or pair of jeans feel like you bought it 3 sizes too small before the day is over so…

here’s how you avoid that and indulge a little without killing your nutrition plan.

Eat before you go

A snack high in protein like string cheese or Greek yogurt will curb your hunger pangs and help to avoid the typical binge that happens at these BBQ’s.

Show some skin!

Yes I said it. Did you know studies show that women who wear loose fitting clothing eat more?  So do the opposite and wear something that you KNOW you will feel uncomfy in if you overeat. It’s simple but brilliant!

Don’t Be A “Nibbler”

Make a choice. Put that food on ONE plate and eat that. The worst thing you can do is have “a little of this and a little of that.” Trust me..I have done that and you wind up eating like 5X more.
