This has been the biggest growth year for me both in my business but more importantly as a person. At 31 years old, this last year really does seem like a blur – like one long day with ups and downs – good days – great days and bad days but always failing forward.

A ton of experience, mistakes, lessons, triumphs and in-between. I feel like I have gotten more of an education in this year vs. all the years before that.

I’m thankful to have this blog to kinda look back at where I started, where I’m at and where I’m going. That last sentence got me a little teary eyed to be honest as I type this on my laptop looking out the window with a cup of tea to the left, one of my cats to the right and my better half hanging out on the couch!

It’s really cool to see some of your goals met, others in the works and new ones taking form.

This post is to help me as much as it’s meant to help you. Reflection is very important to me and it’s always during this time that I like to be alone and quiet and just be honest with myself without the “chatter-box” of our minds.

With further ado, I’d like to share with you a few lessons I’ve learned in 2010

1 – Guard your time: I have said “no” this year more than ever. You see, time is precious – it’s all we got so I won’t let myself get distracted anymore by the shiny thing in the corner. I used to, but now I pass up “good” opportunities so I can accomplish something GREAT – no exceptions. It’s not selfish – it’s focused – hyper-focused maybe…obsessive?…borderline but you will get nothing great ever done in life if you spread yourself thin so minutes to me are like a million bucks. I’m just not giving it up – it’s my right and it’s yours too.

2 – Study those who have succeeded before you: Success leave trails and if you’re serious about getting results in certain areas of your life (business, marriage, weight loss) you should find out how others have done it. If you wanna lose weight for example, find someone who has and ask them as many questions as you can think of..what the ate, when they ate, how they worked out, their mindset etc… don’t re-invent the wheel – just follow what other have done before you.

3 – Two heads are better than one – For instance, I’m in a mastermind group (two actually) of some very successful boot camp owners and fitness pros from around the world and we are all their to help each other via email, phone or conference call to share ideas and contacts and to help each other add the most possible value to the boot campers / clients we serve.

It’s unreal how 10 heads are like 100 when it’s like minded people with a similar goal and how fast things get done – this is one of the reasons why many of you have experienced more results at boot camp then anywhere else. It’s the energy of the group that is a big reason.

4 – Invest in yourself - The greatest ROI (return on investment). As a fitness pro we are all telling people that they need to hire a coach – someone to make sure they are doing things right, someone to hold them accountable and someone to motivate them to be the best they can be and reach their goals in the fastest possible time.

That’s exactly what I did. I hired a coach to help me put this boot camp together. I invested in myself more than I ever have before. I spent a considerable amount of money for coaching, info products, books, private membership ships sites and WHY? Cuz I punched my ego in the face and admitted I needed help.

At any given time in life, you’re gonna be one of three things. A teacher (where you help others), a fellow traveler (an equal to someone else) or a student (where you are learning from the other and just listening) and boy how quickly we forget to be the “student”.

We are all fine with giving our opinions (even when nobody is asking for them) but as we get older, we just kinda get uncomfy with asking for help in certain areas like it’s some sort of weakness when it’s really a super strength.

5 – Stand for something - So many fitness professionals try to be all things to all people. The funny thing is when you try to be all things to everybody, you become NOTHING to nobody.

At some point if you want to “count”, you gotta speak your voice and tell it like it is. People like that – actually they LOVE that.

My 2010 Ritual: Every morning I have one ritual that helps me stay positive and instantly connects me to the universe and it’s infinite power. I close my eyes in the shower…get quiet..and say this to myself…

” Infinite Intelligence…thank you for giving me the opportunity to inhale and exhale one more time and be part of the cycle. Thank you for the health of my loved ones and my own health – I will never take this for granted. Thank you for giving me another day to live my dream – I will learn something, give something and have a little fun in the process. Thank you”

My 2010 Favorite Quote: “A goal is a dream with a deadline!” – Napoleon Hill

A Scarsdale Bootcamp post by Mitch Lee A.K.A. “Charlie”

Getting fit and/or staying fit is not a quick fix, it’s a LIFESTYLE – and I know it’s not always easy.

So I asked a few people in my Scarsdale bootcamp, some private personal training clients of mine and some fit friends that have either lost weight and kept it off or have always been fit just how they do it – lead an active lifestyle that is.

While there were different answers for some, there were 7 habits that all of them had in common so I thought you would like this.

1. They Don’t Bring Junk Food Into The House

While all the” fitsters” said they do cheat on their diet from time to time and are far from perfect, the one thing they do not do is bring junk food into their home.

They said their home was like their temple and if there’s one safe place they can go-to when the movie popcorn, restaurant and fast food dining and outside temptations gets too much is their home. They said it was the place where their goals and actions had a foundation.

The also did not buy junk food for their spouse, partner or child either. It was just a rule they had. If someone else brought it in the house, there was nothing they could do, but they didn’t buy it.

2. Working Out Is A Priority For Them – No Excuses

They put working out, eating healthy and taking care of their bodies and minds as something they do in order to have leisure time/play time/chill time.

They look at having fun as a reward AFTER they take care of and push their bodies. I mean…this is the definition of how you must think, act and be if you are going to be successful at anything right? It’s no surprise they said this and they were very strict about it..

They almost all said the same thing. It’s JUST A PRIORITY in my life. It’s not something I get around to when all is perfect with the world – it’s something I do no matter what and in many instances it’s something I do MORE of when I’m stressed, tired or getting negative cuz it helps me bounce back to positive quicker.

3. They Have a Goal They Are Looking To Achieve

Whether it was to get off meds, drop 30 pounds, fit back in their skinny jeans or just STAY fit, they all knew very quickly without hesitation what their goal was and they said said they think about it a lot, monitor their progress and when they get of course they make adjustments immediately and continue on.

Theses are not people who may want this or might want that or think it would be nice if they could…

they KNOW what they want and go get it.

That’s POWERFUL

4. They Have a Reason Behind The Goal

Each person had a big, motivating reason behind their goal. Some wanted to lose 5 pounds, some 30 and some wanted to get off meds or run a 5k. But WHY?

Well, the girl who wanted to lose 5 pounds has a wedding to go to in 44 days and she wants to look great in the picture…

the guy who wanted to get off the meds wants to be there for his kids for a long time cuz his dad died young…

the girl who wanted to drop 30 wants to be more attractive and get back to the days when her and her husband were all over each other and she also knows that these 30 pounds are preventing her from social events that she would otherwise feel comfortable at…

the friend I know who wants to run a 5k cuz his sister is a survivor of breast cancer and he wants to run for a cure..

do you see how much more powerful it is when you know the reason WHY you want what you want?

So the next time, you have cake in front of you, the next time you see that bag of chips in the store, the next time you are tired after work or cozy in your bed in the morning, remind yourself of your goals and remember the REAL REASON(S) you want it so bad…

5. The Have Support and Accountability

There wasn’t one person who said they didn’t have some kinda support to help them reach them – either a nutritionist, a friend, a life coach, a personal trainer, a boot camp instructor..some kind of a mentor and some kind of accountability.

This I know from major experience.

Never underestimate the power of a mentor or a mastermind group. You get so much more accomplished and much less time.

Every successful person on the planet…everyone who’s every done anything great…anybody who has accomplished their dreams or changed their bodies all have believed and used the art of visualization.

The definition of “creative visualization” is defined as: the practice of seeking to affect the outer world via changing one’s thoughts.

In other words, go there in the MIND and you will go there in the BODY.

In the most well known study on creative visualization, Russian scientists compared 4 groups of Olympic athletes in terms of their training schedules.

Group 1 was 100% physical training

Group 2 was 75% physical and 25% mental

Group 3 was 50/50

Group 4 was only 25% physical but 75% mental training, in other words they were visualizing finishing the race of lifting the weight mostly in their minds. This was how they “trained”.

Can you guess which group performed the best?

Group 4! The group that trained mostly in their minds. The Russians discovered that MENTAL images can act as a prelude to muscular impulses.

The power of the human mind!

Be Aware Of Your Thoughts – They Are Like Waves

For those who know me well…there’s a joke where people say, “Mitch, are you there?” – that’s because I spend a great deal of my waking hours in what can be described as hyper-focused thought – basically I’m a day dreamer…and I think that’s a good thing except when driving.

I pay careful attention to my thoughts cuz I know what you think about you bring about.

I pay careful attention to life’s subtle signs so I stay on my path and I want you to do the same when it comes to your body, your weight loss and your health…

Try This Awesome Visualization Technique Right Now

Close your eyes now and for just 2 minutes everyday for the next week. I suggest after today you do this within the first 30 minutes of waking while you are calm and the world hasn’t started bugging you yet. I did my visualization technique for creating Fit Figure Boot Camp for 2 minutes while sitting down in the shower everyday for 9 months – maybe TMI….but we move on….

The point is to visual in detail how you wanna look. By that I mean your dream body. I want to focus on that picture of yourself for the entire 2 minutes.

Can you see yourself in the skinny jeans?

Can you see yourself eating all sorts of good fooods?

Can you see your refrigerator loaded like a Trader Joe’s?

Can you feel the hand on your shoulder of your friend who is complimenting you on how awesome you look?

If you’re like me, chances are it’s gonna be hard to stay with that POSITIVE thought and those positive images for more than 20 seconds. Your mind will wonder to other thoughts, your mind will make excuses why you aren’t feeling as good as you should, you may even have a thought where you are explaining to your friend why you’ve been cheating on your diet.

It’s amazing once we get quiet, how much we notice our mind racing with crazy thoughts – some that even sabotage our dreams…

I’ll SEE it when I BELIEVE it…(not the other way around)

A good quote can be so powerful, it move someone to change. When I read a good one, I’ll highlight it in yellow, when I hear it in a movie, I usually repeat in with 24 hours (and take credit for it – just kidding – ok – half kidding)
