If you’re like me…

you don’t want to diet, you don’t want to eat foods you hate and you certainly don’t wanna think too hard about food every single day like 4-6 times a day.

But, like me, I’m sure you want to choose foods or WAYS of eating that are gonna help you lose fat, drop weight, get you lean and have tons of energy.

I have a little secret I wanna share with you and when I experimented with this 2 years ago, this is ALL I did and I lost 11 pounds in 5 weeks. It was sooooooooo easy!

All I did was choose low glycemic indexed carbs for dinner…

That’s it…so all I need ya to do is give you a super-quick refresher on the glycemic index and you should drop 1-2 pounds a week…

Long story short, the glycemic index measures how FAST or SLOW a particular food raises your blood sugar levels

You want to choose carbs that are LOW on the GI Index because these foods release energy slow and steady giving you constant and sustained energy.

Those high GI foods gives you a huge burst of energy by raising your blood sugar levels up super high but it doesn’t last long….

and as we know…what goes up, must come down.

That’s really bad cuz it causes you to have low energy levels and hunger.                                                             Â

What’s sucks is that you may not be really hungry, but your body is searching for food to raise it’s blood sugar back up to a normal level.

This increase in calories from food is what causes not only weight gain and an unhealthy body, but can easily lead to obesity and diabetes. Hope this makes sense!

Now obviously, these low GI carbs are the kinds of carbs you wanna lean towards all the time, but all I did was avoid them at dinner.

Why dinner Mitch? Why is this the most important time to avoid them?

For 2 main reasons.

First, we all tend to overeat at night and second…

We are less active after 8pm and the last thing you need is a shot of energy from high GI carbs before bed. The easiest way to gain serious weight, especially around the waist is to eat a big dinner with a lot of high GI carbs and then hit the couch, watch T.V. and then go to bed. That’s a blueprint for heavy.

Think about it like this…your body needs energy during the day when you are active both physically and mentally…as the day progresses you need less energy cuz you’re winding down right?

If you drove your car around all day on almost empty, and the red light was on over bridges and through tunnels and on your way to meetings and picking up the kids or whatever, then you got home after a long day and filled your car up with gas just so you could park it, would that make any sense to you?

I hope not LOL…cuz it makes ZERO sense…

Without further ado…here are my favorite low GI Carbs to have with dinner

(and remember, don’t forget your protein like salmon, halibut, sirloin, tuna, skinless chicken, egg beaters, egg whites, lean ham, lean veal, 90% lean ground beef or turkey)

- basmati rice (long grain, wild)

- asparagus – my favorite side veggie!!!

- bell peppers

- broccoli…classic “get fit quick” dish with grilled chicken.

- cabbage

- cauliflower

- celery

- cucumbers

- eggplant

- lettuce…think salads with your choice of protein ***

- peas, snow peas…love baked chicken with BBQ sauce and snow peas

-mushrooms

- spinach…love lean sirloin with side of spinach

-zucchini

-tomatoes…love like 3-5 scrambled egg whites (1 yolk) with slices of Jersey tomatoes!

- small sweet potato

My family got my sister and I a dog when I was 12. Her name was Lotto cuz she was almost put to sleep so we thought she was real lucky.

She was a little white bichon -Â super-cute.

What’s funny is that we almost got kicked out of our apt. building cuz they didn’t allow dogs. Long story but we won the fight and was able to keep her – she didn’t know how close we came to having to return her – she thought being adorable was enough LOL…

That little girl was my best friend. We used to sit just watching T.V. together…we ate at the same time a lot of nights (like she wouldn’t start eating until I did), she occasionally woke me up in the middle of the night to say “hi”, and when she was in the mood, she let me take a nap with her.

An all-around great pet…

The first like 9-10 years she was full of energy…

*happy all the time

*barked like crazy when the doorbell would ring

* had little spurts of running around everywhere wanting to play “you’re it” I guess

* a great appetite (too good)

* a wonderful demeaner

* gave love and felt love

then, in what seemed like a blink of an eye, I wasn’t 12 years old anymore…I was like 21 and my sister went from 7 to 16.

And like many kids our age, we got busy with hanging out with friends, relationships, partying and coming home late and sleeping late and so on….

I didn’t spend as much time with Lotto as I used to.

Sure I gave her a few pets on the head and kisses a day like after I got up, before I went out and when I came home, but the chasing and running around the house slowed down and I’ll admit we didn’t take her out as often as we should have for daily exercise.

As we were getting more active, stronger and more busy…our Lotto was getting a little older, a little slower and a little weaker.

I know what you’re thinking

Mitch…that’s what happens when pets or people age. My response is YES and NO.

The last 2 years of my pets life was not pleasant. She got diabetes from overeating and a lack of exercise.

Her diabetes caused her to go partially and then almost completely blind. She would walk into walls and it was sad.

And…no more barking when the doorbell would ring cuz she went almost completely deaf at the end. She would just sit on the pillow we had for her by the living room and just sleep a lot.

She was on medication and my dad even had to inject her daily (if I can remember correctly) to battle to diabetes.

At 14 years old we had to make the decision to end her suffering. She had trouble moving her back legs, stopped eating and drinking and the “kicker” was when she fell over on her side one evening in our living room and kinda just stayed there. It was awful…

I’m a peace with the death of my fluffy white best friend cuz she gave us many good years and memories but there are a few BIG LESSONS to be learned here…

We are not DOGS…we are human beings for heavens sake and…

1. We KNOW how important it is to MOVE and exercise

2. We KNOW how important it is to NOT overeat

3. We DON’T need to be walked by our parents, friends or owners. We have control over our lives

4. We UNDERSTAND that we MUST do everything in our power to counter-act the hands of time

5. We KNOW that we don’t need to be dependent on INJECTIONS and MEDICATIONS (although some people have the mindset that “that’s just the way it is”)

6. We all WANT to live not just for a long time but with a high QUALITY of life.

We don’t need to have a 2 year span at the end of our lives of discomfort – we just don’t.

TAKE HOME MESSAGES – MOVE and EAT WELL.

Well…cuz she knows what it’s like to be uncomfortable and she understands that the pain of being unhappy and unhealthy can really take its toll. She wanted to be an inspiration to the many women that I work with to tell you that you can also be a big loser!

You see – I can yell from a Westchester rooftop about the importance of fitness training, working out with a personal trainer, eating right, having the right mindset for weight loss all day long but…

nothing is as powerful as actually hearing from someone (my sister) who lost an unbelievable 47 pounds slowly and consistently by fitness training and eating smart (no dieting – no pills – no potions!)

My baby sis Jennifer was really nice to do this audio interview with me and share all of her secrets and strategies for weight loss.

I mean…she really spills the beans on this interview.

She will tell you her fitness training routine, how long she works out for, her cardio frequency, her nutrition tips, what snacks she eats, her mindset, and much more….

OK Westchester -if you are struggling with your fitness training routine or nutrition plan and you want some serious motivation from someone who has done it, just press play and listen to this content-rich interview with my sister Jennifer below!
