5 Fit Tips For This Memorial Day Weekend
You’ve been working out hard – starting to see some noticeable results – the butt is lifted – the arms are more firm – stomach getting flat – skinny jeans are about to come out of the closet and you’re just feeling fit, proud and accomplished…
and then comes a weekend like Memorial Day – a 3 day weekend meant to remember those who served has become a “who can put on 10 pounds the fastest” contest.
While I do want you to enjoy friends, family, BBQ’s, rest, nice weather, a dip in the pool, maybe a movie or 2…watch the FOOD INTAKE. Keep the fun UP and the waist DOWN.
Here are 5 Fit Tips for this Memorial Day Weekend
1. Eat Before the BBQ
One of the worst health habits is to go to events centered around food starving. You’re setting yourself up for failure before you even get there. The temptation is going to be high regardless but one little tip you can do is to eat something about 30-60 minutes prior to the party. I love apples – high in fiber which helps you feel full pretty quick. Another would be Greek yogurt – almost 3 times more protein than regular yogurt. Protein and fiber filled foods help curb your appetite so give this a try ok!
2. Stay Hydrated
Many people don’t know this but we mistake THIRST for HUNGER often.Go for water or Brita water with lemon and stay away from the the alcohol.
Alcohol will only dehydrate you even more and in this heat – not a good idea.
3. Dress to Impress
I’m not saying put on your most expensive dress or suit (that would be ridiculous) – what I am saying is that the more put together and sexy we feel, the LESS likely we are to pig out.
I mean if I had a pair of XXL Nike shorts on and a loose T-shirt vs. a slim fit designer graphic Tee on with with a nice pair of cargos with a belt, I would be more careful about my answer to the question, “Would you like a 3rd hamburger?”
Also, if you’re going to a pool party and planning on taking a dip, you’re going to be showing off your whole body so think about it.
4. Watch your Portions
Many times when you go to these BBQ’s, you’re kinda “sampling” everything – it’s not really a meal but more like “a little of this and a little of that”.
That’s fine but your summer wardrobe will appreciate it if you kept track of how many burgers and hot dogs you’re throwing on your plate and be smart with portions by choosing the smaller plates instead of the big dinner plates.
If I were you, I go to the BBQ thinking salad, corn on the cob and EITHER hot dogs or hamburgers.
5. Do Socialize – Don’t Stuff
Catch up with your family and friends or make new friends.
Every 5 minute convo with someone is another 5 minutes you’re not mindlessly eating.
Be safe and enjoy your holiday!
